Once
a year, conduct an annual maintenance check, including a bacteria
test. If you notice any changes at all in the taste, odor, or
appearance of your water, schedule a maintenance check as soon
as possible with a qualified licensed contractor. |

Always
rely on qualified licensed water well drillers and pump installers
when a well is constructed, a pump is installed, or your system
is serviced. |
|
|
|

|
Store
all water well service records in a safe location, along with
your construction report, annual maintenance records and water
testing results. |

|
|
| 4. |
|
Never
dispose of hazardous materials in a septic system. |
|
|
|
| 5. |
|
Avoid
mixing or using pesticides, fertilizers, herbicides, degreasers,
fuels and other pollutants near your water well. |
|
|
|
| 6. |
|
Never
dispose of wastes in dry wells or in abandoned (decommissioned)
water wells. |
|
|
|
| 7. |
|
Never
cut off the casing below the land surface. Slope the area around
your water well to drain away surface runoff. |
|
|
|
| 8. |
|
Do
not "mulch up" around your water well casing. |
|
|
|
| 9. |
|
Have
your water well tested once a year for coliform bacteria, nitrates
and other constituents if of local concern. (Should the results
show positive for coliform bacteria, IMMEDIATELY contact your
licensed water well professional to investigate the source of
contamination BEFORE proceeding with any treatment options.) |

Periodically
check your water well cover or cap on the top of the casing
to ensure there are not cracks or openings. Should you notice
any, replace the cap immediately. |

|
Water
well systems should be properly disinfected by a qualified ground
water contractor following construction, any repair and maintenance
of your well. |
|
|
|
| 12. |
|
Should
your water well reach the end of the serviceable life (usually
more than 20 years), contact a qualified water well contractor
to install a new system and properly decommission the old well. |
